The visit of commissioner Creţu at SEDDON
On the occasion of the „European Cooperation Day" on the 21st of September, commissioner Corina Creţu, responsible for EU regional policy visited the programmes Austria-Hungary and Slovakia-Austria. She held a press conference on an exhibitionship MS Negrelli at the pier of Nußdorf in the 20.district of Vienna. She called the Interreg cooperation a success story and talked about the amount of funding the European Commission reserved for Austria in the period of 2014-2020, which is 250 Milion EUR. From that amount 220 Milion EUR are reserved for projects in the border regions.
Afterwards, together with State Secretary Sonja Steßl, she visited the European cross-border science project SEDDON (SEDimentforschung und –management an der DONau) that was funded by the cooperation programme Austria-Hungary.
The continuing project DREAM (Danube River Research And Management) within the framework of the European Strategy for the Danube Region is already in an advanced phase of planning for the following programme period. After the visit at SEDDON the commissioner got the chance to get to know a project that was funded in the SK-AT programme, which is a model project in the area of “NÖ Sprachoffensive” (“Language offensive” in Lower Austria).
She praised the projects with the following words: „Projects like these let us move closer and we get the feeling of a joint Europe”
