Cycling traffic count results for the first half of 2021
The Municipality of Vas County has installed a bicycle traffic counting device in Szombathely, on Dolgozók Street, in the framework of the Interreg V-A Austria-Hungary Cooperation Programme, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, within the project VELOREGIO ATHU064, located on the western outskirts of Szombathely.
The traffic data measured by the equipment will help to make it possible to carry out well-founded further developments in Vas County to meet the needs of cyclists.
Between 1 January 2021 and 31 July 2021, a total of 83,009 cyclists passed the cycle traffic counter. The average daily number of cyclists was 392. As the weather improved, the number of cyclists increased steadily, with June and July having the highest numbers. The traffic counter also counts cyclists entering and leaving the city. From these data it can be seen that the number of cyclists entering and leaving the city is similar, which implies that the inhabitants of the city and of the surrounding municipalities, including those on the other side of the border, probably regularly use the cycle routes in the area for recreation and sport.
