Visitor center in Illmitz
The newly designed National Park Center, financed by the NEduNET Interreg project, has been freely accessible in Illmitz since mid-June 2020. Here, the entire entrance area including the information desk and national park shop was rebuilt. A newly planned exhibition now offers an overview of the habitat between Lake Neusiedl and Hanság. Compact texts, selected objects and numerous screens enable an easy-to-understand introduction to the natural diversity of the national park. Short videos about the most important topics can be selected individually. The explanatory texts about habitats, species and phenomena are written in German, Hungarian and English and the exhibition is accessible free of charge during the opening hours of the National Park Center. The tour, for which you should plan around half an hour, begins in the entrance area at the information desk: Here the view opens up into the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl. Immediately behind it you are in the central Seewinkel and the salt-influenced habitats of the national park - salt lakes and salt fields. What makes the difference between a treeless meadow and a range is shown in the next section of the exhibition. After a few more steps to the east, we arrive at the former low moor Hanság.
